Welcome to Sutton St. Edmund SMBC (Short Mat Bowls Club) established in 2006 and has been active ever since.
The club, resident in the Sutton St. Edmund village hall located in the village of Sutton St. Edmund on the Lincolnshire / Cambridgeshire border.
Short Mat Bowls, a sport for all is played on 45 foot long mats laid out in the village hall.
Every Tuesday evening is our roll up evening where anyone can join us, to obtain a feel for the game. We treat our roll up evenings as social evenings where the game is to be enjoyed and comes complete with a laugh with tea or coffee at our half time interval.
Our club is open to all, be you a resident of the village of Sutton St. Edmund or the surrounding local villages.
Anyone can play the sport of Short Mat Bowls and at Sutton St. Edmund we have a successful club. This comprises of 12 team members (those who can play in league games for the club) and 18 social members (those who attend our roll up evenings). All our members play the game with various ‘skill’ levels.
Our roll up evenings are played every Tuesday evening commencing at 19:00 with a short break approximately 19:50 completing our evening around 21:15. They are social roll up evenings, however some members can and do play a competitive game this makes the evening even more fun.
We do not have ‘professional recognised’ coaches however with thousands of bowling hours experience within the club membership we can offer you some advice to enhance your game and enjoyment.
So, whether it be a couple of hours out playing short mat bowls with a good old social natter or a more competitive game you are after why not give short mat bowls a go with us at Sutton St. Edmund.
Never played and fancy a go? Then why not come along to one of our weekly roll up evenings as a guest, your first two weeks would be on a free trial basis. Please bring with you a flat pair of shoes, slippers or socks as these will help protect the playing surface. Following your two weeks as a guest and like the game and club atmosphere we request you join us as a fully paid up member, please see ‘membership’ for further details.
